FREELANCE FILMMAKING

MY PROCESS
My Freelancing work mirrors that of my normal filmmaking process. That process can be broken into three phases: Pre-Production, Production, and Post-Production.
Depending on the budget and level of ambition, the work done in these phases shift wildly. I will break them down.
PRE-PRODUCTION
This is the pre-shooting phase. After one or two meetings with my client and the creation of an agreed budget, I will collect all of our ideas we developed together and begin writing a script or rough outline. Following the completion of the story, I will sketch out a storyboard so that we know exactly what we will shoot. I will show this storyboard to the client and have it approved. After finding a location to shoot, I will gather crew, actors, and equipment.

PRODUCTION
During Production, we have shooting schedule and will gather everyone together on location, that day. It is completely optional for clients to be present during the shoot (unless they themselves are featured in the commercial). We will follow a shot list, made up of the storyboard images and order them in the most efficient shooting order possible. Crew must be provided food in some capacity depending on the size of the shoot. As director, I will make all primary creative decisions and keep things running smoothly.
POST-PRODUCTION
This is everything that must be completed after shooting, before final submission to the client. This is also arguably the longest part of the process. I will sit down with the footage and stitch the video together in my editing software using the previously made storyboard as reference. After a rough draft, I will refine the video until we are at a "picture lock". Music and sound design will be added and refined following this. We will then color grade the image to maintain both a beautiful look and a consistent world. Once the film is complete, it will be sent over to the client for approval. If nothing else needs refined, still images from the video will also be delivered and the film will be ready.
